GLOSSARY · MODERATION

Ban appeal

A formal request from a banned player to have their ban reviewed and potentially reversed. The most common moderation case-file type on game servers.

Ban appeals are where a community's moderation process is most visible. A player submits an appeal (via a form, a Discord ticket, or an in-game prompt), staff reviews the original case, the attached evidence, and the player's argument, and either upholds the ban, reduces it, or reverses it. Good appeal handling requires a stable case file: the original ban reason, the attached evidence, the staff member who issued it, and a timeline of any prior actions for the same player

Ad-hoc Discord threads lose this context within a month or two of channel rolls.
